At sweetheartsinner, we certainly support getting pets from Shelters. There is a sad state of affairs that most people don't realize about Shelter dogs. Most are only giving a week before they are put down due to space limitations. If the dog is turned in by an owner, that time frame can be so much less! There is a real epidemic about dogs needing homes.

Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs!

Of the dogs entering shelters, approximately 35% are adopted, 31% are euthanized and 26% of dogs who came in as strays are returned to their owner. 31% re put to sleep! That is awful!

 
Please adopt shelter dogs! There are so many deserving and loving animals that just need a home. They will make great companions, loving family members, and give you love and joy beyond compare.
